To the St. Nicholas Night Festival Photo Gallery courtesy of GoRedditch - and what a night it was !
Following ancient tradition, a ‘Boy Bishop’ will be elected for the night, who will ride on a sleigh at the head of a procession of Alcester organisations, including the Court Leet. The procession will culminate in the lighting of St Nicholas Church and the Christmas tree, with a peal of church bells.
Fireworks, stalls, street entertainers and special food and beers will be on offer throughout the evening. The High Street will be closed to traffic to enable visitors to enjoy the multitude of attractions. Shops will be open late, and there will be children’s rides, a pig roast, a barrel organ, morris dancing and mummers. Clowns and other street entertainment will be provided by a range of performers including Alcester Grammar School.
A barrel of 'Boy Bishop' beer was donated to the Three Tuns where the Reverend David Capron started the proceedings by pulling the very first pint (and enjoyed a sup ! ). Later in the evening a St Nicholas Supper was also provided.
Shops and stalls will donate a percentage of their takings, and proceeds will go to youth projects in the town. Extra parking is available at Alcester Grammar School, St Benedict’s Roman Catholic School and Rotary International.
The night culminated in a grand firework display on the recreation ground, and watched by hundreds on the bridge.
The St Nicholas Night is organised by Alcester Chamber of Trade and Commerce, St Nicholas Church and other town organisations
